Firstly, I’d like to clear something up before I get endless emails correcting me. I suppose you’re wondering why I spelled ‘GUARANTEED’ wrong above?
You all know as well as I do that the spelling of ‘GUARANTEED’ is actually correct however as a result of me posing the question you more than likely made sure by reading over the word again?
Isn’t it strange that on being told it was wrong your brain went back, spelled it out and questioned itself even though you knew it was spelled correctly?
What was being used here was a strategy that enables you to instantly change the direction and focus of somebody’s thoughts towards whatever it is
you want them to think about.
On reading the first line of this mind reading article did you for one second think that the word ‘GUARANTEED’ was spelled wrong? Of course you didn’t but as soon as I had told you that, that is exactly what you were wondering (thinking). Even now that I have told you what I have done and how I have done it, I wonder how many of you actually did see the mistake in the spelling of ‘MASSIVE’?
I suggest very few of you spotted it because not many will look to that level of detail. Please tell me you didn’t fall for it AGAIN! This is too easy!
CHANGING THEIR THOUGHTS
Before we get down to some laser beam examples I’d just like to spend a bit of time showing how this works. I guess if you’ve read this far you’re thinking; ’I wonder how Gary got to find this out?’
Were you really or have I just instructed you AGAIN to think that? However now that you are then this the perfect time to answer your well thought out question? [And no it wasn't the book to the right either... but notice how you just wanted to beleive it was!]
[Key Point:
By telling clients that you know what they are thinking
you will cause them to think exactly that. When suggested that a customer mustbe wondering about (X) then it is (X) he will now wonder about it. Isn’t this just
the best thing ever]
Real Business Examples
Example 1:
You: “I suppose you are wondering what the next step is?" (To reply no to this is almost rude enough for them never to say it. Notice how we instantly go from an ‘interested client into a Closing situation)
Example 2:
You: “I know what you must be thinking; how much paperwork is involved in this?” (Again... straight from interest into a closing situation instantly!)
Example 3:
You: “I guess you’ve already thought about who might use and benefit from [XYZ]?”
Example 4:
You: “I suppose you’re wondering what the lead time is?”
Example 5:
You: “I guess you’ve already thought about what you’d like the outcome of this session to be?” (If a yes response is now given by the player/manager/client, then now question them about what they thought about)
[As an aside... these MIND READING statements are used constantly by all forms of the media in order to prime YOU to THINK about what THEY need
YOU to THINK ABOUT!]
Now YOU have the same tools as they do... USE THEM!
